How to check your Claude usage limit
Claude keeps two separate usage counters running at once, and knowing which one you're about to hit is the difference between "plenty left" and "cut off until tonight."
Where Claude shows your usage
Open claude.ai, then go to Settings → Usage. That page shows how much of your current allowance you've used as a percentage, plus when it resets. Claude doesn't email you or show a warning banner as you get close — you have to go and look.
The two windows, and what "reset" means for each
The usage bar on that page is really two limits stacked together, and they run independently:
- Session — resets roughly every 5 hours from when you started using your current allowance. Once it resets, that counter goes back to 0%, regardless of the weekly one.
- Weekly (Pro and Max plans) — a larger cap that resets once every 7 days. This is the one that actually stops you for the week if you use Claude heavily every day; the session limit alone rarely does.
Hitting the session limit is usually a short wait. Hitting the weekly one means you're done until the following week, unless your plan has no weekly cap.
Keeping track of both without checking Settings every few hours
Since Claude only shows these numbers on that one page, at the moment you load it, the easiest way to stay ahead is to let something read it for you. MyQuota for Claude keeps both the session and weekly windows in your toolbar, with a countdown to each reset and a history of how your usage has trended — free, and it never leaves your browser.
